Vaccines
Liverpool University’s Professor Malcolm Bennett spoke of his zoonotic research with Massey. In particular, he is working on sources of campylobacter (from chickens and cattle), and on natural antibiotic resistance in indigenous species. Liverpool is conducting a large trial (based out of Speke) on developing vaccines. Adjuvantix is an early-stage biopharmaceutical company, focused on means to enhance the immune response to prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines. Intervet in East Anglia produces animal vaccines. BioprocessUK also handles vaccines.
Otago’s Immune Solutions is working with DEFRA’s vet labs Agency in Weybridge and with Porton Down’s Health Protection Agency on oral delivery of vaccines. Massey’s Polybatics research aims to establish a new industry in NZ designing biocompatible nanoparticles for human vaccine delivery.
