Defence
For more than a century, British military staff have built a close working relationship with our New Zealand counterparts through personnel exchanges, technology research, combined operations, procurement, training and intelligence collection.
The British Defence Liaison Staff (BDLS) is the diplomatic arm of the Ministry of Defence and is located in the British High Commission in Wellington. BDLS is headed by the UK Defence Adviser, Group Captain Graham Bond RAF and you can contact us on e-mail bdls.wellington@fco.gov.uk.
UKTI Defence & Security Organisation (UKTI DSO) supports the UK defence and security sectors. The representative covering New Zealand is Mr Richard Long who is based at the British High Commission in Canberra.
Application forms for military service records are available from the Veterans Agency. Service records pre-dating 1914 are held by the National Archives.
You may be eligible for a war disablement pension if you were injured through serving in the UK’s armed services. The Veterans Agency is the organisation to contact.
The Veterans Agency also has useful information, including application forms, for medals, badges and emblems, including the UK Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge and the UK Merchant Seafarers Veterans Badge.
