How do I find out about the security of my bank deposit in the UK?
The current uncertainty within global financial institutions has had an impact upon all countries, including the United Kingdom. The British government currently guarantees the first £50,000 of savings deposited in the case of the collapse of a bank or building society. This limit is currently under review and may be extended to cover all savings for individuals with private bank deposits. For the latest information please contact the Financial Services Authority helpline on (+44) (0) 207 066 1000
If you have concerns regarding investment and deposit security with a British bank you are advised to contact your financial institution directly. For general advice and news please visit the Financial Services Authority and Bank of England sites.
